Current Market Conditions

Last Updated - 3/3/10:

Computer memory market pricing for DDR3 and DDR2 has softened, although DDR2 pricing is on the rise. Internal IT budgets are expected to grow over the next two quarters as companies target more efficiency due to recent downsizing.

Microsoft Windows 7, 64-bit versions are becoming more common with major desktop and laptop manufacturers. This version targets power users with much higher RAM memory limits (as seen below) from 8GB (Starter or Home Basic) up to a massive 192GB (Ultimate, Pro, Enterprise). This added capacity allows for much faster system performance, as mentioned in our Blog entry on how 64-Bit Windows 7 Runs Faster with 8GB of RAM.

Maximum Memory Limits for 64-bit Windows 7 Versions:

  • Starter:  8GB
  • Home Basic:  8GB
  • Home Premium:  16GB
  • Professional:  192GB
  • Enterprise:  192GB
  • Ultimate:  192GB
Be sure to check our Computer & Motherboard Memory Configurator to find the physical memory limits and compliable memory modules for your Desktop, Laptop, Server or Motherboard (and more). The hardware has it's own limits of how much memory it will recognize.

We continue to have availability of SDRAM and Rambus modules. We also stock DDR and have rare Micro DIMMs, ECC/Registered memory and printer memory available.

Solid State Disk (SSD) Drives will become an affordable replacement for mechanical hard drives in 2010, with some 32GB SATA MLC SSD's from Transcend closing in on the $100 price point. SSDs boast many advantages over mechanical hard drives, including Faster Transfer Rates, Lower Latency and Access Times, zero noise acoustics, lighter weight and power consumption, better shock and vibration resistance and a wider operating temperature range. See All Transcend SSD Drives available.
